Trip to Guadalajara

It has been a while since I returned from my trip on the 12th of May 2014. Due to many business to catch up here in Sydney, I was not able to continue updating this blog. Finally tonight I am able to do it and add some of the images of Guadalajara City, 'La Tierra Tapatía'. Guadalajara City is the second most important city in Mexico, followed by Mexico City.

My impression of Guadalajara, after visiting Mexico City, was very positive. In terms of quality of the roads and streets compared to the over-built and cramped Mexico City, you can still enjoy some greenery, open spaces and quite streets in Guadalajara.

The old part of the Guadalajara City is based on many squares called 'plazas' It has the neoclassic architectural style. The main 'plazas' of Guadalajara are: Plaza de los Mariachis, Plaza Fundadores, Plaza Tapatía, Plaza del Agave, Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Liberación, Plaza Guadalajara.

The highlights of the city are: 'Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres', 'La Catedral, 'El Hospicio Cabañas', 'El Teatro Degollado', 'Palacio de Gobierno', 'Mercado Libertad', 'Museo Regional de Jalisco'. 'El Templo Expiatorio'. 'La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen'. 'Templo de San Juan de Dios', 'Palacio de Justicia'.

The last photos are mainly from the 'Hospicio Cabañas' built by Manuel Tolsá in XIX century and the Murals are painted by José Clemente Orozco, great Mexican muralist in the 1930s and 1940s.  There was an Installation Exhibition of a French Artist there, who in my opinion he defaced some of the áreas of the building. I would have not allowed him to do that kind of installation. I do not mind sculptures or mirrors or temporal installations, but painting walls in such a bright colour on a building which style is not accepting that kind of colours, it is unacceptable.

I spent a good time visiting some of these places and taking photos aside of enjoying for the first time the famous 'tortas ahogadas'. I also enjoyed eating other typical mexican food there.

Here are some of the photos I selected for this blog.
